1. Introduction

COOWN collects personal data for identification, billing, marketing, and to meet anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing requirements. We process this data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

2. Privacy Levels of Personal Data

All information on the platform is assigned a privacy level:

  • Public — visible to anyone
  • Linked — accessible via direct link
  • Shared — visible to group members
  • Communication System — stored on third-party servers
  • Core — role-based blockchain access
  • Confidential — accessible only by AML officers or authorities
  • Secret — user-only, such as private cryptographic keys

A role-based adjustment of privacy settings is enabled, balancing data protection, compliance, and convenience.

3. Data Protection and AML Compliance

COOWN provides a non-custodial wallet with blockchain data management. Only end-users can edit their personal data. End-users can also set sharing preferences for invoicing and team-related fund management, within legal limitations.

Regional operators ensure AML compliance by viewing (but not editing) personal data, analyzing transactions, and suspending accounts or transactions if required. Operators may share user data with authorities for law enforcement.

4. Retention and Storage of Data

Basic transactional data is recorded immutably on the blockchain and cannot be removed or altered. Confidential personal data is stored only as long as needed to meet our obligations. Regular business data is kept for three years, and crypto asset data for ten years. After these periods, data may not remain available or intact. You should back up important information. COOWN is not liable for data loss, especially once the retention period has ended.

5. Third-Party Services

We use Cloudflare for security and content delivery, Google Mailserver for email, OneSignal with associated services for notifications, and Internet Computer for data storage and processing. For optional marketing and collaboration we may also use additional Google services and automation tools.

6. Communication and Notification Encryption

Email or phone messages may not be end-to-end encrypted. Consequently, we limit the amount of sensitive information in notifications. We will never request confidential data via email or phone.

7. User Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data (unless legal requirements prevent deletion). You may also withdraw consent or object to processing at any time, where permitted by law.
